‘BARBIE‘ director Greta Gerwig is reportedly in talks to put her “CHRONICLES OF NARNIA” movie on 2,000 IMAX screens before it releases on Netflix.
There were reports that Greta Gerwig was disappointed that her film would not get a theatrical release. This has increasingly become an ongoing issue with films produced by Netflix. The streamer has recently been pushing back more and more on theatrical releases.
Earlier this month, a story came out that Daniel Craig told Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos that the standing ovation for ‘GLASS ONION’ got at the premiere proved that the film should get a full theatrical release. Sarandos explained that this wasn’t Netflix’s model, to which Craig retorted, “Your model is fucked!”
Greta Gerwig’s push for an IMAX release of her “Narnia” adaptation isn’t just about showcasing a film; it’s about challenging and possibly reshaping the current norms of film distribution in the streaming era. As discussions continue, the film industry watches closely, aware that the outcome could herald new strategies for releasing high-profile films, balancing the demand for immediate streaming availability with the cinematic experience that only theaters like IMAX can offer.
